Bio

Born Peter Gene Hernandez on October 8, 1985, in Honolulu, Hawaii, he was raised in the neighborhood of Waikīkī. As a child, he achieved recognition across Hawaii for impersonating Elvis Presley before relocating to Los Angeles in 2003 to pursue music. He adopted his stage name partly to avoid being stereotyped and pigeonholed as a Latin artist by the music industry.

Mars first established his presence in the industry as a songwriter and co-founder of the production team the Smeezingtons. He subsequently rose to prominence as a recording artist by featuring on B.o.B's hit single "Nothin' on You" in 2009. His first three studio releases—Doo-Wops & Hooligans, Unorthodox Jukebox, and 24K Magic—earned widespread critical and commercial triumph, with 24K Magic winning the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

In 2021, he teamed up with Anderson .Paak to form the superduo Silk Sonic, scoring a US number-one hit with "Leave the Door Open." A renowned pop icon, Mars is celebrated for his three-octave tenor range, retro showmanship, and electrifying live performances alongside his band, the Hooligans. Mars has sold more than 150 million records globally, establishing him as one of the best-selling artists in music history.
