Born in Haines City, Florida, to Tim and Karen Streeter, Amber Denise "Sevyn" Streeter grew up singing in church and talent shows. Having realized by age five that she wanted to sing for a living, she tied for first place on Showtime at the Apollo when she was ten years old with a rendition of "My Funny Valentine." She earned her first record deal at the age of fourteen as a member of the girl group TG4, and later performed as Se7en in the group RichGirl.
Streeter subsequently signed to Atlantic Records and debuted her solo single "I Like It" in 2012. Her debut extended play, Call Me Crazy, But..., sold over 17,000 copies in its first week and featured her top 40 hit single "It Won't Stop." Alongside her solo career, she has established herself as a prolific songwriter, penning tracks for artists like Chris Brown, Usher, Kelly Rowland, and Ariana Grande.
In 2015, Streeter followed up with her EP Shoulda Been There, Pt. 1. She released her first studio album, Girl Disrupted, on July 7, 2017. Streeter, who points to Aaliyah as her primary musical influence, continued releasing music into the next decade with her sophomore album Drunken Wordz Sober Thoughts.
