Born in Lexington, Kentucky, Tinashe Jorgensen Kachingwe initially relocated to Pasadena, California, to begin her path as a child actor before branching out into music. She developed her musical talents early on as a member of the girl group the Stunners from 2007 until 2011. When the ensemble disbanded in 2011, she set out to build her path as a solo recording artist.
Signing with RCA Records allowed her to make a splash with her 2014 debut studio album, Aquarius, which earned her a Billboard Hot 100 debut with the hit single 2 On. Her subsequent studio efforts, Nightride in 2016 and Joyride in 2018, continued her run of success by charting on the Billboard 200.
Embracing creative independence after departing from RCA, she continued to release celebrated albums including Songs for You, 333, and BB/Ang3l. Her seventh studio album, Quantum Baby, secured moderate commercial success, lifted by the popular singles Nasty and No Broke Boys. Her career reached a major milestone with her eighth studio album, Popstar, which became her first project to enter the top ten in the United States.
