REMEMBER WHEN - Joydyn Simone

If you're unfamiliar with Jordyn Simone, this EP is an excellent introduction to her abilities as an artist. She's an LA native who was once on the 2018 season of The Voice when she was just a senior in high school. You can hear her growth as an artist from her days on The Voice.

REMEMBER WHEN has a similar essence to Lucky Dayes' Dinner For Two. Each track features a male artist, setting a solid, continuous theme throughout the project. With six tracks and a duration of just over 18 minutes, the EP is a quick listen and, in my opinion, has plenty of replay value.

I have two stand-out tracks: DON'T WAKE UP and GREY. However, if you look at the Spotify stats, the stand-out track is I DO, the last single before the project was released. Personal preference plays a part in this, but Joseph Solomon is the most streamed feature on this EP, and I know that also has its effects.

The overall production was consistent and clean, with a consistent sound that guided the listener through the project. Jeff Shum, a Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum record producer and audio engineer, produced four tracks.

The lead track, I DO, which was released as a single, was produced by Jack Dine, Mack Keane, Jeff Shum, and Daniel Chae, establishing the project with a love ballad. Highlighting that it's the little things that matter and should be recognized. The chorus primarily drives this point home.

It's the little things I do to show you that I care

I do (I do)

It's the way you fix your hair, every dress you wear

I do (I do)

Should we stay up here? Should we dive in?

Take a chance, I don't care about the timing (I do)

It's the little things you do that make me wanna say I do

GREY, one my personal favorites, takes a different approach than the lead single. Taking the angle of a possible situationship, where feelings are being left in a grey area. Jordyn took the side of trying to understand what they are, while TA Thomas took the more defensive side or why a choice needs to be made. The two post chorus versus highlight their positions best.

Jordyn Simone

Play it like you wouldn't choose

Me, it's like I got a push to pull it out of you

Boy, you're killing me, you say that I'm the one confused

But I'm just trying to move, can we move?

TA Thomas

Complaining I don't wanna choose

Always pushing me and acting like I gotta prove

Girl, you're killing me, you say that I'm the one confused

What you want me to do?

Overall, this was a solid project that has been on regular rotation for me lately. The features and production choices were smart, especially on I DO. It's worth the time to listen to the project in its entirety. If you like this one, I'd recommend giving some of her past work a listen as well.
